National Women Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kate Gyamfuah has questioned why protesters against illegal mining only found their voices when the election drew closer.

To her, in 2020, the actions taken by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to ensure that they lost all their seats in the mining communities in Ghana except Tarkwa.

While the fight was ongoing then, she indicates that the voices that are loud now were nowhere to be found, so, shockingly, all these people have hit the streets.

“In 2020 when Akufo-Addo was fighting galamsey with all his might, you decided not to raise your voices in the fight. NPP lost all the elections in the mining communities because his opponent assured galamseyers of releasing them from prison.

However, we are left with two months to election and they are now finding their voices. When Nana Addo fought for the water to regain its real colour where were they? Our position has been that they should wait for elections to be over to provide a fair playing field for all of us to fight illegal mining. I will even join them on the streets after elections to fight the menace,” she said.
