Tic one of Ghana’s Hip life music giants known in real life as Nana Kwaku Okyere Duah has spoken passionately about how Ghanaian music is going nowhere. He stated that Ghanaian music especially the latest releases just lack continuity. Music he stated grows and the new with the old must be integrated to learn from one another in the space.

Tic spoke bitterly during a radio interview on how Ghanaians have devalued musicians who have held the space for decades. The recent sensation and craze about Nigerian music he added was as a result of Ghanaian musicians missing the rudiments of the craft.

Tic noted it was wrong in the first place for Ghanaian musicians to decide to sing in the pidgin language. He noted that is and was not the “magic wand” to blow across Africa. Sharing his years of experience as a big name in Nigeria, he recalled how the inclusion of the twi language excited Nigerians. “ I disagree Nigerians don’t like Ghanaian music” he added.

Speaking with Akwasi Aboagye on radio, Tic again debunked the notion that Nigerians don’t play Ghanaian music in their country. “If you have money they will turn up for you. I was signed on to other Nigerian labels.” The “fefe Ne fe” hit maker noted that Ghanaians don’t know what they have. We have the beat, rhythm and music”.

Ghana initiated afrobeats where Nigerians picked the inspiration from and Ghana should learn “how to travel with our music. You should learn to “take your music to the people who make things happen” he advised fellow musicians.

He finally advised industry players to learn how to put a face to Ghanaian music. “Tuface was at a point the face of Nigerian music and they added unto him and did not negate him(Tuface) to the background. “I am happy a see a certain name all the time, but am sad when we do not add up to it. Ghanaian music will always keep missing out.”
