The Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng has communicated the unwillingness of the state to continue the case of allegations brought against the Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga. Mahama Ayariga was accused of using public office for private funds.

On Monday, October 11 in  a Press release, the Office of the Special Prosecutor stated that it has entered  “a nolle prosequi” which is to say  “upon further scrutiny of the available evidence the republic is unable to prove its case of standard of proof required in a criminal case, viz, beyond reasonable doubt”.

This also means the case has been discontinued. In May this year, an Accra High Court acquitted and discharged Bawku Central MP in the case of the purchase of an ambulance for the Bawku Municipal Assembly.

The outstanding case also involved the lawmaker’s alleged using parliamentary loan approved for the purchase of a V8 vehicle for official use. The case was started by the then Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu.

Mahama Ayariga was accused of fraudulently evading customs duties and taxes by paying GH¢6,062.86 instead of the approved duties and taxes of GH¢36,597.15 to clear three Toyota V8 Land Cruisers.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has however pledged to prevent, investigate, and prosecute cases involving corrupt cases involving corruption and corruption related offences.
