by Fila News Gh

The Presidency spent an amount of GH¢15million on replacement of tyres and batteries of vehicles in its pool between January and September 2022. This is according to documents on expenditure provided to Parliament by the Presidency.

The Member of Parliament for the North-Tongu Constituency, Mr Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has revealed.

According to Mr Ablakwa, this makes a mockery of the government’s plea to Ghanaians to burden share in the current economic crisis.

“Tyres and Batteries for official vehicles cost the suffering Ghanaian taxpayer an unbelievable GHS15million (15,000,000.00),” he said in a Facebook post on Monday, January 31.

The Ranking on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee added that the Presidency also spent GH¢59.4million on “operational enhancement expenditure.”

“The President’s “operational enhancement expenditure” (whatever that animal is) cost the suffering Ghanaian taxpayer a mind-boggling GH¢59.4million (59,486,108.91),” Mr Ablakwa added.

The former Deputy Minister for Education also insisted that the government did not adhere to its promise to slash fuel expenditure by 50% which was announced by the Finance Minister, Mr Ken Ofori-Atta.

“The fuel bills paid at the presidency within the 9-month period under review, cost the suffering Ghanaian taxpayer a colossal GH¢51.1million. (51,109,137.86).

“Empirical analysis conducted reveals that government failed abysmally in its promise to slash fuel expenditure by 50%,” he added.
