Minister of Communication on new GHC5 self-service SIM re-registration app.

Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful has disclosed that the deadline for the SIM card re-registration has been extended to 30th September 2022. 

This is to allow a lot more people to register their SIM to avoid deactivation. A lot of Ghanaians have expressed their frustration and displeasure at their inability to register their SIM due to the unavailability of their Ghana card. The Ghana card according to law is the only document that can be used to undertake the registration.

During a press briefing held in Accra on Sunday, July 31, 2022 she also added that a self-service sim re-registration app will be launched on August 2.

The Minister noted that the app will be available to the public both on android and IOS from August 2 all things being equal. She noted that the registration via the app will come with a GHC5 charge.

The Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful noted that the app is to allow people from the comfort of their homes undertake the registration themselves with ease.

Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful said the public will also be educated adequately on how the app works.

The SIM re-registration as is being carried out by government is to help monitor activities deemed to be criminal. These may include on line banking fraud, SIM box fraud, phone theft etc.
