KiDi had the best of nights at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards when he walked home with five awards in all. The “Touch it” hitmaker actually expressed his desire to win artiste of the year in the nearest future after he missed out to Diana Hamilton at the 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.
Indeed, he put in a lot of work after he made a speech whiles picking up some awards in 2021 saying “I will be back”. This year’s event which was held at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference for two days running had Ghanaian music on display and celebration on full blast. On day 1, May 6, 2022 Chatter House event organizers, hosted many stars to an industry awards night. These awards were labelled as technical as most industry colleagues conferred them. Many artiste picked up various awards but arguably Samini’s performance stood out for the night many patrons noted.
Day 2, had the VGMA 2022 main event held on May 7, 2022 where various awards were presented to deserving musicians. Top on that awards list was the artiste of the year which was picked up by Lynx Entertainment signer, KiDi.
KiDi beat tight competition from fellow nominees such as Black Sherif, King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Sarkodie and Joe Mettle to take the spot. Picking up his awards KiDi said “delay is not denial, Glory be to God. I want to thank MTN hitmaker for introducing me to Ghana. To the media, my fans, my friends, to my big boy Zane, to my mother, Ghana thank you so much.”
He also won Vodafone Most Popular Song of the Year for his song Touch It, Album/EP of the Year (Golden Boy), Afropop/Afrobeat Artiste, and Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year Touch It.
This year’s 23rd edition of VGMA saw electrifying performances from artistes like Mr. Drew, Joe Mettle ft Neilla, Ohemaa Mercy and MOG, Camidoh, Black Sheriff, KiDi and many more.
