President Nana Akufo Addo has congratulated farmer across the country for their efforts at feeding the population all year round. Every year, government seeks to celebrate the efforts of farmers. Every December, a day is set aside to appreciate farmers for their continuous effort of making sure Ghana does not plunge into hunger as well as neighboring countries.
As part of government’s move to commemorate the 2021 National Farmers’ Day, President Nana Akufo Addo in a tweet assured farmers of continuous efforts at creating an enabling environment for all who work in the agricultural sector of the country.
“There is wealth in agriculture, and Government will continue to create the enabling environment and put in place the necessary policies and programs for the rapid growth of the agricultural sector” President Nana Akufo Addo added.
This year’s celebration which happens to be the 37th edition of the Farmers Day, came at a time when the world is hit by the Covid 19 pandemic which affected significantly the world’s economy. Although the pandemic rages on with hopes that majority of the world’s population will get vaccinated in order to control the spread, the Ghanaian farmer still focused on production at all cost.
“This year’s event has taken on a significance, because of the efforts of our farmers and fisher folks in ensuring that there no shortages of food at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic” President Akuffo Addo added.
Alhaji Mashud Muhammed a 44-year-old man from the Mion District of the Northern Region was adjudged the 2021 Best National Farmer. He received GH¢600,000 sponsored by ADB and a two-bedroom apartment, among other prizes.
This year’s farmers Day hosted in Cape coast was under the theme, Planting for Food and Jobs; Consolidating Food Systems in Ghana. Over 160 farmers were awarded in various categories.
