The Ghana Police Service has arrested 29 protestors for engaging in violence during the Arise Ghana demonstration. The demonstration scheduled for two days on day one, ended abruptly due to violence on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.
Police officers as well as some demonstrators had various degrees of injuries. The Ghana Police Service arrested the demonstrators’ who were believed to be involved in “violent attack” on police officers.
“Available footages of the event are being reviewed and all other persons identified for taking part in the attacks as well as inciting violence will be arrested and brought to face justice”, a Police statement read.
According to the Ghana Police Service some school children were also caught up in the violent Arise Ghana demonstration.
The statement also noted that the footages and images making the rounds in the media space “speaks to the events and the public is urged to disregard the untruths and falsehood and misinformation being peddled by the organizers and should be treated with the contempt it deserves”.
The Police statement has given hints at arresting organizers “the organizers of the demonstration will be arrested and put before court for the attacks and damage to public property”. Day two of the demonstrations begins from the El-wak Sports stadium in Accra.
